Bus Buddies will provide one-on-one assistance to individuals who are unfamiliar with the BAT system, from getting on board to exiting. This personal introduction to the BAT should result in increased ridership by seniors for medical appointments and increased senior engagement in the community knowing they have reliable access to shopping and other activities. The volunteer will make an individual’s first time bus experience “senior friendly”. Bus Buddy Community Educators will provide group education to individuals who are unfamiliar with the BAT system. The instruction will be in the form of outreach to housing complexes and organizations that serve target population. The Bus Buddy Community Educator will provide information about the BAT system and its routes, tips on how to best use the system and interact with BAT drivers. The Bus Buddy Community Educator will also provide small group trips to popular destinations to allow seniors to get familiar with riding the BAT. This introduction to the BAT should result in utilization of personalized service of the Bus Buddies and/or increased ridership on the BAT by seniors for medical appointments and increased senior engagement in the community knowing they have reliable access to shopping and other activities.
