Food AND Medicine (FAM) is planning its 8th Annual July 4th Solidarity Celebration in Brewer!  This year, Maine performers Dave Mallet and Bill Morrissey will be featured, and the fun family event will include children’s games, home-cooked food like BBQ organic lamb and a chili cook–off.  Plenty of vegetarian options are available as well, and Congressman Mike Michaud will be stopping by. At dusk, watch the fireworks from the park next door and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the Penobscot River.  The celebration gets under way at 5:30 PM at the Solidarity Center, 20 Ivers Street in Brewer, and lasts through the fireworks. The choice between either food OR medicine is a reality for too many people in our country, so FAM is striving to correct economic inequity and build a more just and sustainable community.  To that end, proceeds from the event go to FAM programs that assist laid-off workers.  This event is co-sponsored by Food AND Medicine, Eastern Maine Labor Council, and AFL-CIO. Volunteers are needed to help before and during the event with set-up, serving food, collecting tickets, providing security, and cleaning up.  This is a great opportunity to volunteer as a family or with a group of friends.  In addition to helping out for a great cause, all volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and ticket for food, music, and fun.  Click here to sign up for this opportunity.
