Bar Harbor, Maine , July 25, 2008 – Volunteers are needed to assemble playground equipment for the new Town Hill Playground: Saturday, August 23, between the hours of 7am and 6pm "Rain or Shine" onsite at the Town Hill Playground, Route 102, next to the fire station and Town Hill Community Hall.
Volunteers need not have building experience -- a great attitude and the willingness to help are all that is required as there will be a suitable job for everyone. (However, volunteers must be 16 years or older.) Throughout the day refreshments will be provided by Hannaford and there will be music as well as restroom facilities. The West Eden Village Improvement Society has been working for several years within our community to create a public playground in Town Hill, the fastest growing residential area on Mount Desert Island. The collective goal has been to provide a fun, engaging, and safe outdoor play area for the community’s children, ages 1-12, in an easily accessible location that could also act as a social center for Bar Harbor families. Through the amazing effort, support and incredible good will of so very many residents, businesses, local and state governments, all funds and products have been generously donated and things are finally coming together for the Town Hill Playground’s grand opening at the end of August. While the project has received and benefitted from this wealth of assistance and encouragement, there is still one last push necessary to complete this project. Again, volunteers are needed onsite at the Town Hill Playground to assemble and install the playground equipment on Saturday, August 23, between the hours of 7am and 6pm, for three hour shifts -- 7am-10am, 10am-1pm, 1pm-4pm, 4pm-6pm. Help provide a fun and safe playground for the children of our community by volunteering your time to assemble this playground equipment. If you would like to sign up or receive more information, please call Gabrielle at 244-3377.
