| Beginning on September 11, 2002, we want to stand with our neighbors in Eastern Maine as we honor those who died on 9/11 by building stronger communities and a new spirit of civic engagement. Rather than establishing another 'memorial day', we want to channel the collective community spirit into community service. In the same way that Pearl Harbor and WWII gave birth to a life-long commitment to community service by one generation, we hope that September 11 can become that moment in time for a new generation. Our vision is to build a new tradition in Eastern Maine. Together we want to have 2002 people committed to acts of kindness by September 11. Wouldn't it be great if school children were visiting nursing homes, raking leaves, or joining with their families in serving meals to the homeless? Or groups of employees take a few hours, or even a day, to work as a team repairing the homes of elderly or low-income residents? With your help this could be an occasion to celebrate volunteerism and present new opportunities for people to become engaged in their communities. Search this web site for volunteer opportunites.
