Milford- Working with the United Way of Eastern Maine eighth-grade students from teacher Andrea Michaud's pride group in Milford spent the fall collecting canned goods and food items to be donated to the seniors of the Marsh Island Apartments of Old Town. Pupils delivered hand made wraped packages on Dec.22, singning Chrismas carols and socializinf with the residents."Engaging youth in service opportunities in our community is critical in our efforts to build stonger, healthier communities," said Sara Yasner, United Way's children and family community impact associate. Students collected 30 boxes of items to give to the Marsh Island residents. The food was collected from boxes placed within the Dr. Lewis S. Libby School. The students teacher became interested in running a volunteer event with her class members after a presentation United Way held in the school on youth volunteerism. United Way's AmeriCorps Promise Fellow, Beth Ann Dyer, as been working with the school to help organize the project.
