Homeless Shelter Volunteering Last updated on May 1, 2003 The Bangor Area Homeless Shelter is frequently in need of capable volunteers. We have a range of needs and opportunities including preparing and serving meals; supporting paid staff by working with them and "shadowing" their work; conducting fund raising activities, food drives, etc.; transporting food and other items; building maintenance, painting, etc. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. There is a need to feel comfortable working in an environment of others who have a range of behavioral health issues. Requirements and "matches" for positions are accomplished through meeting with staff and discussing the Shelter.
