Parents Helping Parents
The mission statement of Parents Helping Parents is to empower parents to nurture children and prevent child abuse.
Description:
Parents Helping Parents offers two free and confidential programs in Massachusetts. The statewide network of parent support groups provides on-going support and encouragement to from a caring and non-judgmental community of parents. At these group meetings, parents can talk to other parents about how to improve their relationships with their children. The groups are co-led by parents and a trained volunteer facilitator. Parents Helping Parents also offers a 24-hour, toll-free Parental Stress Line that parents and caregivers call when they are feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Trained, sympathetic and non-judgmental volunteer counselors answer the Parental Stress Line and offer a listening ear, support, parenting information and referrals to area resources. No problem is too big of too small to call.
History:

Started by a group of concerned clinicians as a program of Parents' and Children's Services, the line offered callers a toll-free, anonymous, confidential telephone counseling and crisis intervention service. In July, 2003, Parents' and Children's Services merged with The Home for Little Wanderers. Two years later, the Home for Little Wanderers decided to discontinue the service at which time the Parental Stress Line moved to Parents Helping Parents.
