History:
Our organization was founded by Elnora Williams in 1941."Mothers in 1941 were being employed for the first time in large numbers in the defense industry and not only in New Bedford as many mothers were traveling to Newport,RI each morning to go to work. Grandmothers also were leaving the home for the industrial plant. This left many young children from 2-4 years of age locked out of the home and unattended in the yard. Their older brothers and sisters were in school. This evident social need was the reason for the nursery's beginning."
