The mission of the South Central South First Street Neighborhood Association is to revise problems of crime, poverty, drug abuse, neighborhood deterioration and hopelessness within our community, working with local police , city departments, social service agencies, and institutions of education.

Description:
The Neighborhood Association works with police,city administration, various social service agencies, institutions of education, and other non- profit agencies to provide information, services, and social activities to our community, to name a few. We are committed to the betterment of our community, and bringing residents in the community together, for a safe, healthy, and happy environment for all. We do this through information, and hosting and participating in events such as, National Night Out Against Crime, Community Clean-ups, Community Conferences, Family Movie Nights,Family Fun Day events, fundraisers,and monthly meetings were guests are invited from the various agencies, and department that we work with to improve the quality of life within the community.

History:
Since June 1990 the South Central South First Street Neighborhood Association a grass-roots organization, has been working to revise problems of crime, poverty, drug abuse, neighborhood deterioration and hopelessness within our community. The Association is comprised of tenants, home owners, rental property owners, and business proprietors who are building a representative and powerful neighborhood organization focusing on education and employment opportunities for youth and adults, community empowerment, improvement of housing, recreation and access to human services.

The association meets the last Monday of each month at the Alfred J. Gomes School at 6:30 P.M. All community residents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
