Bristol County 4-H Youth Program

The mission of Massachusetts 4-H is to prepare youth, ages 5 to 18, to become independent and contributing members of society.

Description:
4-H is the largest youth development organization in the world and in Massachusetts, 4-H is part of the Outreach unit of the University of Massachusetts Amherst Extension Program. Boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 18 can participate in 4-H programs.

4-H members meet regularly with other young people and a screened, caring adult volunteer (leader); this is called a 4-H club. The club focuses on one or more areas of interest, called 4-H projects.

History:
The 4-H program began nationally in the early 1900's.
Each state has a land grant college that provides research and support to the 4-H program. In Massachusetts, our land grant college is the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, which provides subject matter expertise and administrative support.
