Peace Works!
Peace Works! seeks to provide innovative positive opportunities, resources and support for youth and their families in a selected neighborhood in New Bedford by helping residents, parents, educators and other stakeholders create a safe haven and spread messages of non-violence.
Description:
Peace Works! currently is a partnership between The Bristol County Sheriff's Office, The Boys and Girls Club of Greater New Bedford and the Community Service Office of the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Peace Works! oversees a youth garden club at the Boys and Girls Club called the Culture Club. The youth in the community as well as other agencies collaborate on projects that inspire the community as well as spread the non-violent message of Peace Works!. The Maxfield City Garden is also a project of Peace Works!. This spring work at the garden will begin again as we head into our second season. The Maxfield City Garden is located on Maxfield Street across from the playground at the Boys and Girls Club.
History:
At the end of the gardening season last fall, Peace Works! held it's 2nd annual Harvest Festival in the city garden. The free gathering was a fun filled day where children, families and the community came together to share in some Autumn festivities. Peace Works! is gearing up for the 2nd season of the Maxfield City Garden. Volunteers are welcome. Help us plant the seeds of hope by taking the time to work with a project that teaches children about their community and how we can work together on common ground.
