Description:
The day-to-day work of the Diabetes Association Inc. (DAI),is to provide education, information and referral, and motivation and support for people with diabetes and those who care for them. We strive to increase early diagnosis and awareness of Type 2 diabetes as a serious but controllable disease, and provide services that address the multidimensional challenges of Type 1 diabetes. We devote many resources to providing programs for children and teens, such as Camp Kyle T. Woodruff, our summer day camp for youth with diabetes, their siblings and best friends. We offer a Youth Sport and Support groups that meets twice monthly during the academic year. The Association also sponsors Holiday family programs and other family activites.
History:
The DAI is a community-based nonprofit organization that was founded in 1975 by parents of children newly diagnosed with diabetes. Their goal was to learn as much as they could about diabetes and provide support in coping with the day-to-day challenges of living with diabetes. The DAI is not affiliated with any national diabetes organization. We are a United Way member agency, and are also supported by contracts, grants and donations from members and friends.

Overall Experience

touching.
 |
I have worked at Camp Kyle for the past 4 summers, and every year my heart is touched a little more than the last. From the people I work with to the kids that attend, it is always a warm experience. Looking up to the coordinators and having the kids look up to me- all of that really makes my summer. posted by sarahmach on October 27, 2004 |
