The Women's Center
The mission of The Women's Center is "to empower and support positive choices for all and to educate and take action in the community for the prevention of oppression and violence."
Description:
The Women's Center provides FREE and CONFIDENTIAL services to all persons affected by domestic violence and/or sexual assault. Counseling and support group services are provided to victims, survivors, and friends/family members. TWC also operates a confidential shelter, child trauma program, offers medical advocacy, court advocacy, a 24hour anonymous hotline (508) 996-3343, and educational sessions. TWC provides services to Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Fall River, Freetown, Marion, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Rochester, Somerset, Swansea, Wareham, and Westport.
History:
The Women's Center was founded in 1973 by a group of women seeking to support and inform other women. The Domestic Violence program was developed in 1978 and the Sexual Assault program was developed in 1983.
