The Boys And Girls Club Of Wareham
Mission Statement The Wareham Unit of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford, Inc. is dedicated to providing a stimulating and wholesome environment which promotes social, educational, character and physical development for children and young adults ages 7 - 13 years.
The aim of the Club is to service youth and children from disadvantaged circumstances. Underlying all programs is the desire to create a youth development strategy which fosters and advances a sense of belonging, inclusion, competence, diversity and self-worth.
Description:
The Boys & Girls Club of Wareham serves children ages 7 to 13 through two primary programs: an Afterschool Program and a summer program. The Afterschool Program has a Power Hour component which provides homework help and tutoring in addtion to light recreation and computer training. Summer Fun at Camp Victory is a 9 week program which operates from 8:30 to 5pm, with an early drop and a late pick up option. Campers participate in a variety of camp activities including: field trips, computers, recreation, drama, arts and crafts and swimming. The Club also provides monthly dances for 4th - 6th graders.
History:
The Club was started as an independent organization in 1982 by a group of concerned citizens in the Town of Wareham because the Town had lost its Recreation Department due to Proposition 2 1/2. In December 2006, the Club received a charter from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and shortly thereafter merged with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford.
