The New Bedford Public Schools Division of Adult and Continuing Education is currently seeking literacy volunteers to help teach adult learners. Volunteers are needed to assist in Adult Basic Education and/or English for Speakers of Other Languages classes. Volunteers typically devote one morning or evening a week working alongside teachers in the classroom or tutoring students one-on-one or in small groups. Beyond a high school diploma and a desire to help others learn and grow, volunteers do not need any special skills or previous experience. Classroom teachers and the Volunteer Facilitator provide tutors with ongoing direction, guidance, and training. For more information about the volunteer opportunity, please call Dr. Michael Gauthier at 508-997-4511, extension 2419. Volunteer to help others help themselves. Volunteer tutors are provided with 12 hours of training in the course of their service. This opportunity is sponsored by: New Bedford Adult Education
