Description:
The Edgerton Park Conservancy works to restore and maintain Edgerton Park. The Conservancy has replanted trees and shrubs, pruned trees, restored the beautiful greenhouse complex, and it continues to restore the fine, old carriage house. The Conservancy also hosts many programs: field trips to the rainforest and desert greenhouse conservatory; community gardens; a popular fair known as Sunday in the Park; summer camps; Shakespeare in the Park; the New Haven Folk Festival; Symphony in the Park; Easter Seals Greenbrier program for handicapped adults; and more. The Conservancy works in conjunction with the New Haven Parks Department.
History:
The Edgerton Park Conservancy began as the Edgerton Garden Center thirty years ago. Over the years the organization rebuilt the stone fountain with its staircase and balustrade; it rebuilt the greenhouse complex, which now thrives with various programs; it restored the carriage house, which is used by many organizations as well as by summer campers and wedding parties.
