Description:
The Eli Whitney Museum is an experimental learning workshop for students, teachers and families. We collect, interpret, and teach experiments that are the roots of design and invention.
We design, prep, pack and teach more than 72,000 building projects a year with children in schools throughout CT. We match much of our curriculum to meet the CT State Science and Math Framework standards. Our Vacation and Summer Camp programs employ 60 young people who have grown up in our classes and workshop. They work throughout the school year either after school or on weekends to be eligible to work as a summer counselor.
History:
The Museum has been on the site of Whitney's first factory for 25 years, originally as a traditional Museum, then, for the last 23 years as a teaching center to instill the concepts that Whitney brought to his young apprentices.
