New Haven Home Recovery, Inc. - CT - New Haven
It is our mission to promote the independence of Women and Children confronting homelessness, HIV/AIDS, and behavioral health issues in a supportive environment where their potential can be realized.
Description:
New Haven Home Recovery (NHHR) is a private, non- profit, community based, multi-service agency which serves the needs of women and children throughout New Haven. NHHR has been the premier provider of housing services to homeless families for over 16 years. Initially, NHHR began as a homeless shelter for ten women and children in the Hill neighborhood. The realization that many of the women needed medical care due to AIDS diagnoses led to NHHR’s introduction of supportive housing in 1993. NHHR continued to expanded services in response to community needs to include a continuum of shelter and housing services, food pantries, clinical assessment and treatment, housing location and advocacy along with intensive, in-home case management through our four supportive housing programs.
History:
NHHR offers a continuum of housing programs from emergency shelter to supportive housing and services for women, children and families. New Haven Home Recovery has developed over 70 units of scattered site transitional and permanent supportive housing since 1995. This demonstrates our commitment to supportive housing and our experience in securing and supporting homeless families in community settings. Our programs include: Emergency Shelter Services: o CareWays Shelter (established in 1990): Provides emergency shelter and supportive services to ten women and their children. o Women in Crisis Shelter (established in 1999): Provides emergency shelter for 18 single women and three women with children. o Both shelters provide a length of stay model for the women and children residents. On-site services include: food pantry, basic needs, case management, clinical assessment and treatment, and housing location. o Weekly, on-site collaborative support includes: APT Vocational Services’ job readiness and job development services and Hill Health Center’s medical services to women and children. Supportive Housing Programs: o Supportive Housing Program for Families with HIV/AIDS (established 1993): Provides 35 units of housings with comprehensive, in home services addressing homelessness and HIV/AIDS. o Homeless Families Transition Collaborative: (established 1997): collaboration with Christian Community Action, LifeHaven, APT Vocational Services and the Women’s Consortium. NHHR provides supportive housing to ten women and children transitioning from any family homeless shelter into the community and independent living. o Supportive Housing For Families (established 2000): This program is collaboration with the CT Department of Children and Families and the Connection, Inc. This award winning program provides the opportunity for women in recovery to reunite with their children who are currently in placement. Affordable housing linked with case management and supportive services allow for a positive familial transition. o The New Haven Family Partnership (established in 2002): NHHR is the lead administrative agency on this collaborative program. The Coordinating Council for Children in Crisis provides clinical family services to individuals and families who are struggling with mental illness and substance abuse. NHHR, ALSO-Cornerstone, and the Connection, Inc provide affordable housing and the necessary supportive services to keep families stabilized in housing.
