Guilford Center For Children
We are a non-profit organization whose mission it is to provide a safe, nurturing and developmentlaly-appropriate environment for young children who need out-of-home care during the day.
Description:
We are a preschool day care center for 28 children ages 3-5. Our program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. We offer a sliding fee scale to 50% of our families, We provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks each day. We feel that social skills (getting along, sharing, manners, participating in clean-up, conflict resolution, etc.) are as important as those skills needed for Kindergarten (counting, ordering, sequencing, etc.). The teacher-child rtio at our center is 7 to 1. We strive to meet the individual needs of each child, to support parents and families, and enjoy ongoing communication with families.
History:
Our day center was started in 1971 by a group of concerned citizens who felt that young children were being left home under the supervision of siblings. There were originally just 20 chidlren enrolled, but now full enrollment is 28. We always maintain a long waiting list and are looking forward to breaking ground for our new center, which will allow us to have 60 chidlren envrolled. The new center will be housed in two rehabilitated barns on the Woodruff Farm in G;uilford.
