The Yale Undergraduate Philanthropic Society (YUPS, formerly APO) seeks to foster the ideals of leadership, friendship, and service, through a variety of student-planned community service activities. Previous projects have included a party to make cards for soldiers in Iraq, a free Halloween event for New Haven children, tutoring with New Haven Reads Book Bank, and a bake sale for ShelterNow!
History:
The Yale Undergraduate Philanthropic Society was originally part of the national service group Alpha Phi Omega, before it became an independent organization. Its members have completed dozens of service projects, and the organization fostered many friendships among its members. Previous projects have included: ~A party to make cards for soldiers in Iraq ~A free Halloween event for New Haven children, where members collected 170 lbs. of food for the CT food bank ~Tutoring with New Haven Reads Book Bank ~A bake sale for ShelterNow! ~The annual Communiversity Celebration, which seeks to bring together members of the Yale and New Haven communities Social events for the group have included: ~Sushi nights ~Ice cream socials ~Mexican fiestas ~Bowling
