SARAH Inc. provides services, supports and advocacy for children and adults with developmental disabilities and for their families. Our mission is to make independence possible.
Description:
Founded in 1957, SARAH, Inc. remains one of Connecticut's most prestigious non-profit organizations providing vocational, educational and recreational services to people with developmental disabilities in over 40 communities across the Greater New Haven and Shoreline areas.
SARAH Inc. has an array of support services available to individuals referred to us by the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services, Workers Compensation Board, Department of Mental Retardation, Department of Social Services, local school systems and the general public.
SARAH Inc. is an affiliate of the SARAH family of agencies that includes SARAH Seneca, SARAH Tuxis and the SARAH Foundation. SARAH is a local ARC, and a chapter member of the ARC/US and ARC/CT.
History:
SARAH Inc. was founded in 1957 by 6 Guilford residents with family members with mental retardation. Originally, SARAH was a school (until the advent of the IDEA) in addition to providing support services and advocacy that include recreation, vocational training, a birth to 3-year old program, a senior center and community experience programs.
