The Columbus House mission is to serve people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless by providing shelter and housing and by fostering their personal growth and independence.
Description:
Columbus House hosts a number of programs that provide housing and case management services for people who are homeless. Two shelters, two transitional housing programs, a permanent supportive housing program and two street outreach programs provide a continuum of services for over 3,000 people each year. Case management is available at every level of housing linking clients to critical services in the community, i.e. mental health and substance abuse treatment, health care, employment training programs, education and social rehabilitation, HIV/AIDS care, recreational activities and spiritual direction.
History:
Columbus House opened its emergency shelter in 1982, providing "2 hots and a cot" to 52 adult women and men who were homeless. In 2002 Columbus House opened a new shelter and administrative facility providing 101 beds, case management, vocational services, food and shelter to homeless adults. Columbus House has expanded to include more options for housing in its array of services.
