Liberty Community Services, Inc.

Liberty Community Services is a New Haven-based supportive housing and service organization that demonstrates dignity, compassion and respect in its work with Connecticut residents confronting homelessness and disability. Because we believe that housing is a fundamental human right, we are committed to creating opportunity, solutions and change for individuals and our community, grounded in respect and self-determination.

Description:
With administrative offices centrally located in downtown New Haven and residential programs in three well-kept Victorian homes and multiple apartments throughout the region, all programs spring from our mission to ensure quality housing and support services for the underserved. We help thousands of people in need annually--answering thousands of requests for referral, information, support and case coordination; conducting more than 125 eligibility screenings; and providing safe, supportive housing for 75+ adults. Liberty's programs include Outreach and Supportive Housing Access, Transitional Living, Supportive Living, Independent Living, Open Door Alliance, CTCARE Alliance and Safe Haven, an exciting renovation project that provides 33 permanent apartments for chronic, hard-to-reach homeless adults in the Ninth Square district.

History:
Formerly the CT AIDS Residence Program, Liberty Community Services has been an active and respected community resource in New Haven since 1987, helping hundreds of adults who face poverty, illness and/or addiction move from the streets, shelters and facilities of south-central Connecticut into safe, supportive housing. Originally formed in response to housing insecurity confronted by people with HIV/AIDS, Liberty today welcomes all adults facing homelessness, poverty, mental illness, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and other chronic and life-threatening illnesses.
