Our Mission:

The mission of the Greater New Haven Literacy Coalition is to promote literacy and networking opportunities throughout the region.

Description:
To support literacy for all ages.
To collect and disseminate information to all area literacy initiatives.
To collaborate with area literacy organizations.
To work towards the establishment of a permanent commission on literacy for the Greater New Haven area.
To support the literacy initiatives of public/private education in the Greater New Haven area.
To promote the professional development of Greater New Haven literacy providers within the coalition.

History:
The coalition was formed in 2001 to galvanize a collaboration of local agencies and local providers dedicated to raising public awareness and engaging the community in a dialogue around improving literacy levels in the Greater New Haven area. The coalition created a Task Force that has met regularly to identify the issues and begin to develop an agenda to respond to the literacy need.
