SCORE provides resources and expertise to maximize the success of existing and emerging small businesses. Small business ownership makes entrepreneurial dreams a reality; transforms individual lives; builds financial wealth; shapes futures; increases commerce in our communities; and is the engine behind the health and growth of the national economy.

Description:
The local office of SCORE is in New Haven at Gateway Community College. The SCORE Association, an arm of the SBA, is headquartered in Washington, D.C.. SCORE is composed of volunteer business mentors, both working and retired, who counsel businesses from chapter offices throughout the country. In New Haven, we have about fifteen active volunteers who do counseling and provide staff support for the chapter. In addition to counseling, we conduct regular small business workshops and seminars. All of our services are offered without charge.

History:

1. 5 million entrepreneurs have been counseled by SCORE or attended SCORE workshops. In the 1970's, when SCORE chapters were formed, services were expanded to include workshops and seminars. In 1966, SCORE ventured online and began providing small business advice via email.
