The mission of Precious Paws Rescue and Adoption is to improve the health and welfare of homeless cats and kittens, alleviate animal suffering, reduce pet overpopulation and abandon rates of unwanted animals, strengthen human/animal bonds and promote collaboration within the community in an effort to reach our goals.
Description:
Precious Paws Rescue and Adoption is a 501C(3) nonprofit organization that provides sheltering, emotional, and wellness care for homeless, abandoned, and neglected pregnant mother cats and kittens until suitable and loving homes can be found. We are a cage-free and no-kill shelter located in the St. John Valley which is operated by a group of dedicated and committed volunteers. Our shelter provides a home-like environment with a bright and cheery adoption room where potential adoptees can interact with the cats and kittens. All cats and kittens in the shelter are provided necessary wellness checks and vaccinations. We strongly advocate spay/neuter to reduce the overpopulation of unwanted animals; therefore all of our cats are sterilized by the time they reach the age of 5 months. Anyone adopting a kitten that is too young to be fixed must abide by our spay/neuter policy in order to qualify for adoption. Some additional programs the shelter provides include a pet therapy program for area nursing homes, and educational programs on responsible pet ownership.
History:
Precious Paws Rescue and Adoption is a small licensed facility which was founded by Linda Ouellette as a result of the overwhelming need for sheltering of abandoned cats and kittens that she observed in her community. Precious Paws was officially organized and incorporated in November 2003 and received 501C(3) nonprofit status in April 2004. Precious Paws is the only shelter of its kind in northern Aroostook County. The shelter was founded with the mission of eliminating abandonment and inhumane killing of unwanted cats and kittens in the region, reducing euthanasia rates at local pounds, preventing cruel treatment and suffering of unwanted animals through prevention and intervention activities, and promoting respectful and kind treatment for all animals.
