Western Maine Health is a member of the MaineHealth® family. We are a not-for-profit integrated healthcare system committed to providing medical care to all those who seek it.

History:
Stephens Memorial Hospital, on Main St. in Norway, opened in 1957 with 25 beds and eight physicians. By 1967, there were 41 beds and currently there are 50. Over the next several decades, services offered by the hospital were expanded to include a 24-hour Emergency Room, nuclear medicine and ultrasound capabilities, and pediatric services.

The Western Maine Health Care Corporation, which includes Stephens Memorial Hospital, Market Square Health Care Center, PACE Paramedic Service, Stephens Community Healthcare Foundation, Western Maine Mountain Clinic and Western Maine Multi-Medical Specialists, was formed in 1987. In 1999, Western Maine Health joined the state's most sophisticated and far-reaching health system -- MaineHealth®. Today, our physicians and employees work closely with their colleagues throughout the MaineHealth® family to ensure that the healthcare needs of our patients continue to be delivered with the highest level of quality.
