Last updated on September 23, 2008

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. It does this through services that are consistent with its Congressional Charter and the Principles of the International Red Cross Movement.

Description:
Volunteers for the American Red Cross can offer resources and emotional support after house fires, floods, or other disasters. Volunteers open shelters and feeding centers for refuge during storms and other disasters. First Aid/CPR instructors teach the community how to respond to immediate health needs and encourage a healthy lifestyle. Swimming instructors, babysitting instructors and pet first aid instructors work in the community, also, teaching skills to the community. Behind the scenes, volunteers stuff envelopes, pack and unpack training kits and resource material, raise money for disaster services, and drive the emergency response vehicle to where it is needed.
