The Help Yourself Shelf food pantry is an outreach effort of St. Philip's and the community to provide basic nourishment to those in need. Help Yourself Shelf serves anyone in need regardless of race, gender, or community where they reside.

Description:
Help Yourself Shelf is a weekly food pantry located in Wiscasset Maine at St. Philip's Episcopal Church. Open every Thursday at 5:00 p.m., the food pantry distributes food to anyone seeking assistance. Available food items are displayed on large tables and clients choose an allotted number of items based on family size. Allowing choice helps insure that what is given to any individual or family will be used. The pantry is run totally by volunteers who do the shopping (at Good Shepherd Food Bank), sort and stock donations as well as purchased groceries, keep inventory, set up for distribution on Thursdays, greet people when they arrive, track sign in and aid people in food selection. Help Yourself Shelf also has developed a social component with people arriving early on Thursdays to socialize and assist the volunteers with the set up.
