Coastal Family Hospice Volunteers
[ View Opportunity ]
Last updated on March 14, 2008

The mission of Coastal Family Hospice Volunteers (CFHV) is to provide volunteer, non-medical, confidential support to patients and families who are facing death and those who are dealing with loss. We provide support and education to our volunteers and raise awareness of the hospice philosophy and our services in the communities we serve.

Description:
Coastal Family Hospice Volunteers is a volunteer hospice licensed by the State of Maine to provide confidential, non-medical support, free of charge, to residents of Knox and Lincoln Counties. Our volunteers receive more than 30 hours of training before being certified to provide services. Those services include paying friendly visits to patients at the end of life--and their families--in the home, in the hospital, or in a nursing home. We also provide respite to caregivers, keep vigil at the bedside when asked, and offer bereavement support to all community members through support groups and one-to-one communication.

History:
Coastal Family Hospice Volunteers was organized in 1979, during a period of growing grass-roots interest in improving end-of-life care. For a 10-year span, CFHV was part of Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice, a Medicare-certified agency. In 2003 CFHV became independent once again and is now licensed as a volunteer hospice.
