Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to the ideal that all people deserve a simple, decent, healthy place to live on terms they can afford to pay. Working in partnership with individual volunteers, faith communities, organizations and new homeowner families, Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity is building homes and building hope in our community.

Description:
Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity was created to provide a long-term solution to the need for simple, decent housing for low-income families. People working in Habitat believe that all people deserve a decent place to live. Using volunteer labor and donated materials and working in partnership with our families whenever possible, we are building sturdy, affordable houses. These are sold to families at cost, with zero-percent interest loans. All mortgage payments are recycled to build the next home. We do more than build homes: We foster partnerships with our families and provide them with supportive services during the first year of their mortgage. Habitat is not a charity program. Rather, it is an organization that enables families to build a successful future. We believe our families need capital, not charity, and co-workers, not caseworkers. In short, a hand up – not a handout.

History:
Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1987 and is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Inc., a non-profit, non-denominational Christian housing organization. Since starting in 1987, Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity has built a total of 13 homes in the Androscogin County area, providing housing for 79 children and adults.
