South Portland Food Cupboard

Agency Details:

South Portland Food Cupboard

Our mission is to serve nutritional food to low income families and those in need in South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough and the surrounding areas.
We let clients choose the foods they would like, pack them and hand deliver to their cars.

Description:
We use Federal Income Guidelines of income under 150% above the poverty level for acceptance to our program. We are open every Thursday morning from 8:30 to 11:30am. Clients can access our Cupboard once a month and we will share a week's worth of food with every member of their family. We are now serving between 40-50 families a week. This requires the purchase of large numbers of canned and packaged foods each week. We now have a group of 45 volunteers that consistently help each week but are in need of men to help drive the van for pick ups and unload heavy boxes of canned goods.

History:
We are all volunteer and have been operating this Cupboard since July of 1997.
We are completely computerized, have 8 refrigerators and 9 freezers, have procedures set up for handling perishable foods and deliver monthly to 12 individuals that cannot physically access the Cupboard.
