The mission of New Beginnings is to assist adolescents who are in crisis due to unstable or conflictive living situations to grow socially and emotionally so they can build self-respect and lead productive lives.

Description:
The programs and services operated by New Beginnings, open to youth of any gender, include: short-term emergency shelter for youth ages 12-19; long-term transitional living for youth ages 16-21; outreach, including a drop-in center, for youth 14-21; and HIV prevention education for youth in all programs. New Beginnings serves more than 800 homeless youth each year.

History:
New Beginnings is a non-profit youth-serving agency located in Lewiston, Maine. Established in 1977, New Beginnings is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Since opening its doors in 1980, New Beginnings has grown from a program providing basic shelter care to an agency with a variety of community-based services meeting the needs of youth in crisis and their families. The agency received funding from individual donors, local organizations such as the United Way, and state and federal sources.
