Mission: the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine is an interfaith wisdom school and open community committed to transformation of self and planet earth through education, ordination, support, celebration and service.
Description:
ChIMe offers a two-year 500 hour educational and 300 hour service program for students seeking to deepen their spiritual growth and practice and / or seeking ordination as interfaith ministers. The first year of the program - The Way of Contemplation - focuses on inner work; the second - The Way of Action - focuses on serving the community. Classes are one weekly evening and one weekend every month September through June. Students learn about wisdom traditions, past and present, through reading, writing, classes and workshops, designing services, and performing volunteer work.
History:
We opened our program in Fall of 2002, and have graduated and ordained three classes since then, a total of 20 students. Our students study the world's major religious traditons in small, participatory classes. They provide monthly interfaith worship celebrations that integrate mind, body and spirit, as well as the expressive arts. Student contribute both volunteer and internship hours as part of their program.
