Our mission is to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.
Description:
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a not-for-profit organization serving people with multiple sclerosis and their families in every state. The Maine Chapter serves over 5,500 people with MS,their families and friends, all of whom are dealing with physical and emotional challenges associated with MS. Supported soly by voluntary contributions, the Maine Chapter provides programs and services throughout Maine, while funding research to discover the cause and find a cure and better treatments for this devastating disease. MS is a chronic illness of the central nervous system most often diagnosed in young adults. Symptoms range from numbness in an arm or leg to total paralysis. While there are treatments available to slow the progression of certain types of MS, ther is no cure.

The Maine Chapter was established in September 1954 and currently raises over $1 million to help find new and better treatments and eventually a cure for MS. The Society has expanded over the years and currently offers programs and services, focusing on knowledge, health and independence, throughout the state. The Maine Chapter also has an outreach office in Bangor.
