The Cedars active volunteer program enhances resident care while enriching the quality of life at The Cedars. The program looks for volunteers whose availability, interests, and skills are compatible with the needs of our residents. The Cedars volunteers range in age from infant (accompanied by a parent, of course) to active senior citizens.
Volunteers may spend their hour(s) visiting with residents, transporting residents from their rooms to activities, playing cards or board games with residents, seating people in the dining room, or helping with special events. The Cedars volunteers give generously of their time and have reported that they gain meaning and satisfaction in their own lives. The Cedars has cared for generations of Maine families, and its volunteer program has greatly contributed to its 75 years of rich and textured history.

Description:
The Cedars is a non-profit, non-sectarian facility with 102 beds providing long-term care at The Skilled Care Center and rehabilitative services at The Rehabilitation Center.

History:
The Cedars was founded in 1929 as the Jewish Home for the Aged. In 1991, The Cedars built a modern new facility now located on 11 beautifully landscaped acres on Ocean Avenue. The Atrium at The Cedars is an independent living community for active seniors, and an assisted living unit, soon to be built, will complete the continuum of care.
