RSVP of Southern Maine
[ View Opportunities ]
Last updated on November 24, 2008

RSVP's mission is to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities for older adults and to serve communities by utilizing the talents, expertise and life-long experiences of older adult volunteers.

Description:
RSVP recruits volunteers age 55 and over to serve in non-profit organizations and health care organizations, whether non-profit or proprietary. RSVP volunteers come from all backgrounds and choose volunteer opportunities based on their interests, skills and schedule. RSVP provides all its volunteers with a variety of volunteer opportunities from which to choose, careful placement, on-going support, a recognition luncheon, insurance coverage while volunteering, and, in some cases, reimbursement of travel expenses. Many volunteers give one morning or afternoon of service each week, but any amount of service is welcome and schedules are flexible.

History:
RSVP is a national program founded by federal legislation in 1972 and funded through the Corporation for National and Community Service. Each RSVP project in the country (there are more than 750) is operated by a local sponsor. Southern Maine Agency on Aging has been the sponsor for RSVP in Cumberland and York counties since the program began here in 1973.
