Port Resources is a non-profit social service agency dedicated to providing innovative and supportive residential, therapeutic and recreational services to children and adults with developmental disabilities throughout York & Cumberland Counties. Port Resources is dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to lead rich and fulfillng lives.
Description:
Adult Residential Services: Our programs provide comfortable, healthy homes that meet each individual's needs. Our homes vary from single family houses to single occupancy apartments. Staff support ranges from a few hours a week to 24 hours per day. Residential Services for Children: We provide a family-like environment with supports and guidance during school age years. We work with both the school system and families to maximize the opportunity for the growth and development of each child. In-home Support: Our in-home service provides support to children while still living with their families. Programming, shaped by the needs of the individual and their family, provides consistency and skills teaching to support the child in their home environment. Crisis-Respite Services: Our state-contracted crisis-respite program provides short-term crisis intervention to individuals experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges. Planned respite is also available for individuals when longer-term supports are necessary. Our Commitment: We are committed to providing quality support services that exceed expectations of the individual and their family. We take pride in the services we offer and appreciate the opportunity to contribute to other's lives. We strive to promote the occurrence of miracles in the lives of the individuals we support. Activities for Everyone: We provide opportunities for all individuals with developmental disabilities in the Greater Portland area whether living at home with their family, on their own, or receiving services from a residential provider- to have fun, meet new people, develop self confidence and engage in activities that create meaning in their lives. An activity newsletter and a website are produced that outline the many recreational and educational opportunities available.
History:
Port Resources was incorporated in December 1979 and opened its first group home in July 1980 (a six-bed group home on Emery Street) in Portland -- now two, four-person apartments referred to as the "Munroe House," in honor of Elmer Munroe. Port Resources was established as part of the movement to de-institutionalize individuals with development disabilities from Pineland. Port Resources has grown is size providing residential programs for 85 adults, adolescents, and children. Our in-home support program provides out-reach services to 36 children and additional unknown numbers are served through our Activities Program. Just last year the agency accepted 10 new consumers into its programs and the Activities Program has continued to attract an even wider range of participants. Port Resources has a trained staff of 235 full time individuals from all walks of life and all levels of education. Our 30 programs at 20 different sites operate with a 10 million dollar budget. We consider Port Resources a very special organization. As a result of our programs, many persons with developmental disabilities lead rich fulfilling lives in Southern Maine communities. Port Resources is special because of the dedication of our staff, the leadership of our management team, the fiscally responsible manner in which our business is run and for many other reasons. Whatever your interest in Port Resources I hope you'll consider how you can contribute to our ongoing success. Just give us a call for more information.
