Agency Details:
Maine Association Of Nonprofits, (MANP)
A statewide membership organization representative of and champion for Maine nonprofits. Our mission is to strengthen the leadership, voice, and organizational effectiveness of our state's nonprofits so that they can better enrich the quality of community and personal life in Maine.
Description:
The Association works to support the characteristics of nonprofit leadership in Maine: vision, sense of reality, ethics, courage, commitment, and cooperation. To this end, we organize our work as follows:
Nonprofit Management Education: The Association advocates for a well trained, governed, and managed nonprofit sector through affordable workshops, regional forums, and a resourceful, available staff.
Cost Savings Programs: The Association advocates for efficiencies and economies of scale to put more money into direct services. Currently available to Association members are discounted health, dental and related employee insurances, as well as a variety of retirement plans
Networking: The Association advocates for a membership that is well linked and providing a consistent message to the public, through regional forums and other informal sharing of contacts and ideas.
Advocacy: The Association advocates for understanding of nonprofit work in the community and the legislature. Issues that the Association will always address are those such as the preservation of property tax exemptions, promotion of charitable giving, and laws that pertain to nonprofit oversight. We also work to promote the true impact of the sector on the quality of life here in Maine.
History:
The Maine Association of Nonprofits (The Association) was formed in March of 1994 by a core of seven 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations to "advance Maine's nonprofit sector." It has now grown to over 550 nonprofit members and over 90 corporate supporters, voluntarily cooperating to improve their organizations and the nonprofit sector as a whole. Membership draws from all parts of the sector. Our vital work includes advocacy, group services (cost savings programs), technical assistance (education), and networking and is based on a model in place in thirty-eight states of the nation.
