It is the mission of Eastern Area Agency on Aging to be the best source of information, options, and services for seniors, adults with disabilities and caregivers.

Description:
Eastern Area Agency on Aging is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3)organization managed by professional staff. We have a volunteer board of directors and advisory committee, which is representative of seniors in our four county area.

When challenges of aging or caregiving leave you or a family member uncertain of where to turn or how to access needed resources, our community service consultants and caregiver specialists are here to guide you. Consultants help with insurance, Medicare, MaineCare (Medicaid), Social Security and information about many programs and services which can help you. Caregiver specialists and Partner's in Caring can help you with information and support to assist you through the challenges of caregiving for a family member.

The largest program is the Nutrition Program which provides nutritionally balanced, hot noontime meals for persons 60 and over at 45 Community Cafe's located throughout Washington, Hancock, Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties. Hot meals are also delivered to homebound individuals who are unable to cook a full meal for themselves through EAAA's Meals on Wheels program.

Our programs succeed, in large part, because of our 700 volunteers. Together, we are here when you, your family, or neighbors need assistance.

History:
The Eastern Area Agency on Aging has been serving seniors and their families in Hancock, Washington, Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties since 1973. The agency is a part of a nationwide network established by the federal Older Americans Act. It is one of 680 area agencies on aging nationwide. The Nutrition Program, formerly Meals for ME began in 1972 and merged with Eastern Area Agency on Aging in 1992.
