The River Coalition is a group of concerned persons from the river communities of Alton, Bradley, Greenbush, Milford, Old Town and Indian Island who share a vision of positive change. Our purpose is to link resources, ideas, energy and experience to foster and support stronger, more caring communities. Telephone: (207) 827-8744.

Description:
The River Coalition administers grants designed to promote healthy families, reduce substance abuse and build strong communities using a model called "Communities That Care". Our plan has three goals: 1. to strengthen youth connections with families, schools and communities; 2. To strengthen family management (parenting skills) and 3. To strengthen family relations (conflict resolution skills).

Our sponsored programs include After-School and Summer programs at 6 area schools, Reconnecting Youth at Old Town High School, Youth Action Council at Old Town High School, Welcome to Kindergarten Packets, Programs at Old Town Public Library: Bookworms, Compulsive Readers, Youth Be The Judge, Teen Speak, Camp Library and Camp Adventure; Guiding Good Choices (parent education program), TIPS: Responsible Beverage Server Training, and Community Dinners/Family Matters Campaign.

The River Coalition Inc is managed by Micah Robbins, Executive Director and it is governed by a Board of Directors representing our five communities.

History:
The Old Town Action Group (OTAG) received a 1993 grant from the Office of Substance Abuse which funded the formation of the River Coalition. Because OTAG, the FUTURE Team (Union 90) and Indian Island were all dedicated to combating substance misuse and violence in their communities. They joined their energies to form the River Coalition in 1994.
