Mount Desert Island Hospital first opened its doors in 1897. Today, we are a full-service, state-of-the-art, non-profit health care facility with eight regional health centers and a retirement community.
For the 4th consecutive year, MDI Hospital is one of the top ten national award recipients in patient satisfaction. This award, presented by Avatar International, Inc., is given to the ten hospitals with the highest patient satisfaction survey scores for Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Ambulatory Surgery.
We provide 24-hour Emergency Service and fully-equipped Intensive and Coronary Care units.
MDI Hospital employs over 423 people, including two Hospitalists, one ER physician, nine primary care physicians, an orthopedic surgeon, and an osteopath. Our active medical staff includes two general surgeons, an ophthalmologist, a pathologist, a radiologist, a dermatologist, a neurologist and a psychologist.
Our recent Special Gifts Campaign raised over $3.7 million to help renovate our inpatient unit, which will provide our patients with comfort and privacy.
