We coordinate volunteers to assist medical and public health in times of surge a major emergency.

Description:
The Western Maine Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) works with local medical, public health and mental health agencies in providing services during major emergencies. Each team is designed to meet the needs of the community it serves. We need both licensed and support volunteers to assist with providing mass vaccination clinics, surge hospital facilities, and special needs shelters. It is surprising how many hands it takes to do the job effectively and efficiently. WE NEED YOU.

Our training program consists of about five hours of training that can be taken live in weekend and weeknight sessions, or online at your convenience. We will be participating in a drill involving Stephens Memorial Hospital in 2009.

History:
The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national program based in the Office of the United States Surgeon General. It was developed in response to the events of 9/11. This national program has units in every state. Each unit is locally administered with support from the regional and national offices.
