Lots to Gardens is growing good food to create change. We use sustainable urban agriculture to create access to fresh food, and to nurture healthy youth and a healthy community. Since 1999, we have built fifteen gardens and greenspaces in four diverse neighborhoods in Lewiston, Maine.

Description:
Growing Food
People of all ages are experiencing the hard work and sweet rewards of growing their own food in one of our ten community gardens. Many others find fresh organic produce at our neighborhood veggie stands and other distribution sites. And, they are learning to love good food through cooking classes and community meals!

Growing Youth
Our Summer Youth Gardener program teaches a diverse crew of teens how to grow and eat healthy food, and empowers them to improve themselves and contribute to their community. Our Garden Learning programs help young children develop self-esteem while they grow vegetables, learn to compost, and then eat their yummy harvest.

Growing Community
Using the gardens as a classroom and community space, adults and youth grow food for their own communities, resulting in healthier families, fresh food on the tables of hungry people, and stronger, more just communities.

History:
Lots to Gardens began in 1999 with a small garden at Hillview Apartments in Lewiston. It grew quickly adding a summer youth crew and intern program as well as opportunities for community gardeners. The organization also expanded to include a food and nutrition program.
