Maine Handicapped Skiing

Maine Handicapped Skiing promotes year-round education and training for individuals with physical disabilities in order to develop skills and provide enjoyment through active recreation.

Description:
Maine Handicapped Skiing is a year-round adaptive recreation program for adults and children with physical disabilities,ages 4 and up. MHS offers adaptive winter lessons in downhill skiing and snowboarding 6 days a week at Sunday River Ski Resort and on weekends at Sugarloaf and cross country skiing and snowshoeing Wednesdays and Fridays at Sunday River Inn and Cross Country Ski Center and Thursdays at Pineland Farm in New Glocester. Summer adaptive activities are taught in locations throughout Maine and include canoeing, kayaking, cycling and golf. All lessons are free of charge to participants.

History:
Maine Handicapped Skiing started in 1982 at Sunday River Ski Resort with 2 students and 8 volunteers. We are now an internationally recognized adaptive recreation program for adults and children with physical disabilities, serving over 300 people a year with over 400 well trained and dedicated volunteers.
