HFH/7RM works in partnership providing affordable housing in our communities.

Description:
HFH/7RM coordinates the labor of volunteers with contributions of money and materials to build modest, affordable housing and renovate family-owned homes in partnership with qualified families. New homes are sold to our partner families at no profit and 0% interest.
HFH/7RM works with individuals and families who live in substandard housing, who make between 25-60% of the area median income, who have the ability to pay the zero interest mortgages, and who are willing to contribute 250 hours of "sweat equity" per adult in the household. This program is "not a hand-out, but a hand-up" allowing any family to develop self-satisfaction, pride, and confidence.

History:
HFH/7RM was founded in 1990 and serves all of Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties as well as Brunswick and Harpswell - 31 towns in mid-coast Maine. Since 1991, HFH/7RM has completed 29 new home constructions to help more than 100 adults and children. Two builds are currently in progress - 1. located in Bath in partnership with Bath Iron Works, and 2. located in Harpswell designated a Women Build. HFH/7RM offers family-owned rehab projects with costs over $5,000 and family-owned home repair projects with costs less than $5,000. HFH/7RM is currently part of a pilot program to receive funding for Energy Star and LEED certification. A new Youth United Program invites youth aged 5-25 to get involved through community awareness, fundraising, and building.
In January 2007, HFH/7RM opened a ReStore. The ReStore is a recycling retail center that accepts donations of new and lightly used building materials, fixtures, furniture, appliances, tools and other surplus items from individuals, contractors, and businesses. These goods are offered to the public at bargain prices. Proceeds are used to build additional houses.
