Description:
York County Shelter Programs, Inc. (YCSPI) offers a variety of services and has the ability to meet a multitude of needs. Currently, YCSPI is licensed by the Department of Health and Human Services and holds both a substance abuse and a mental health residential license at our facility in Alfred, Maine. The population served at this facility is low to no income individuals over 18 years of age. In addition, YCSPI also operates a family shelter, also located in Alfred, Maine. The population served at the family shelter is low to no income family units. YCSPI operates emergency shelter beds, extended shelter beds, extended care beds, transitional/permanent housing beds , and some independent living beds. Our Food Service Program provides vocational training for homeless persons while preparing and distributing meals to hungry persons through 2 Free Meals Kitchens as well as our residential facilities. This amounts to almost 64,000 meals per year, plus an average of 33 food boxes per day are distributed to low-income families from our Food Pantry.

History:
YCSPI was incorporated in 1979 as a private non-profit corporation (501c(3)) in the State of Maine and is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are representative of the community. In 1994, YCSPI was designated by the Maine State Housing Authority as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO).
