VSA Arts Of Maine

Agency Details:

VSA Arts Of Maine
Logo

VSA arts of Maine is a non-profit art, education and disability organization. Our mission is to ensure that every person with a disability or at risk in Maine has the opportunity to use the arts to rise to his or her fullest potential, to explore the world, and to become an active participant in it.

Description:
VSA arts of Maine programs include artist residencies in schools, teacher and artist trainings, workshops for adult artists with disabilities, art exhibitions, and cultural venue site and program accessibility surveys. We are often seeking teachers and artists interested in learning how to teach in inclusive environments, for which we provide training. We also train people to be co-curators of our exhibits, which involves cataloging artwork, creating promotional materials, and actually hanging and taking down shows. We can often use help with administrative tasks and getting mailings out also.

History:
VSA arts of Maine (formerly known as Very Special Arts) is Maine's official affiliate of VSA arts--an international nonprofit organization founded in 1974 by Jean Kennedy Smith to promote education and lifelong learning opportunities in the arts for people with disabilities.
