| Description: |
|
Are you someone who can see the "big picture"? Do you care passionately about the strength and capacity of Maine's volunteer sector? Can you balance your local perspective and our focus on issues that cut across all sectors of volunteerism in Maine? Are you willing to bring resources, obtain resources, or connect us with resources to accomplish our work? Then keep reading! NOTE: Appointments are made by the Governor. The Commission is a governmental body and only recommends candidates for consideration. Nominees from all regions of the state are needed . To view legal requirements of membership, visit "About" on www.MaineServiceCommission.gov and read the "Membership" section of our statute. Openings on MCCS occur when a member resigns or opts not to renew for another 3-year term. Criteria for recommending members are shaped by the 24 legal requirements of member representation (union, business, public safety volunteers, 16-24 year olds, etc.) plus gender, geography, age, and political affiliation. Within the parameters of the statutory requirements, the Commission also searches for members who can assist with its current Strategic Plan goals. For the period 2006-2009, MCCS is focused on creating professional development for volunteer managers, fostering implementation of essential business practices in volunteer programs, grantmaking, increasing the rate of volunteering (33.3% in 2006), and developing volunteer emergency response networks. Board skills sought include resource development, eLearning and technology use, integration of volunteers into public safety and emergency response systems, adult education and curriculum assessment, risk management and legal expertise related to volunteerism, program evaluation, and more.
