Volunteers needed to care for seedlings Virtual Opportunity Featured Listings Youth Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on September 1, 2009

It may be winter but we are starting to plan for Cow Island's organic vegetable garden. The produce from the garden goes to the meals for our youth programming. It is also an educational garden that school and youth groups engage with. Our Cow Island Conservation Corps also maintains the garden.

We are looking for a few individuals who would be interested during April/May to grow seedlings for the garden. They will be planted on the island when the ground thaws; you are more than welcome to help with the planting. If any classroom teachers and their students are interested in getting involved, we can arrange a program.

Volunteers must have space indoors to grow seedlings- preferably a greenhouse, heat lamps, or a warm and sunny location for them. We will provide seeds, soil, containers, etc. Some gardening experience would be helpful though not necessary.
